malcontent: 0.7.0 → 0.8.0
* Update: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pwithnall/malcontent/-/releases/0.8.0
    * Fix the separation patch.
    * Add `itstool` to ui (needed for building localized help).
* Use `pkg-config` instead of the `pkgconfig` alias.
* Fix some issues related to multiple outputs:
    * Make the module pass specific output to `dbus.packages` since the `dbus` NixOS module will not generate configuration with correct interface paths otherwise.
    * Change `malcontent-ui` package to primarily-a-program type derivation (`out`+`lib` instead of `bin`+`out`) since there are more and more `malcontent-control`-specific assets.
        * This also fixes the issue where application data (desktop files, icons…) were installed to `out`, which is not installed by `environment.systemPackages`/`system-path.nix`’s `buildEnv` by default when `bin` output is also present.
    * Make `malcontent` package install `out` output too so that `system-path.nix` links that too. It contains the AccountsService & Polkit data files.
    * Split the library and PAM module out of `malcontent.out` so that they are not installed with the data files.
        * This revealed a bug in the `gobject-introspection` setup hook.

ZFS: Request credentials only for selected pools
This change introduces more fine-grained requestEncryptionCredentials.
While previously when requestEncryptionCredentials = true, the
credentials for all imported pools and all datasets in these imported
pools were requested, it is now possible to select exactly the pools and
datasets for which credentials should be requested.

It is still possible to set requestEncryptionCredentials = true, which
continues to act as a wildcard for all pools and datasets, so the change
is backwards compatible.

nixos/tinc: allow configuration of RSA key file

Bas van Dijk d06de760f8 nixos/modules/system/activation/top-level.nix: allow overriding system.name
The toplevel derivations of systems that have `networking.hostName`
set to `""` (because they want their hostname to be set by DHCP) used
to be all named
`nixos-system-unnamed-${config.system.nixos.label}`.
This makes them hard to distinguish.

A similar problem existed in NixOS tests where `vmName` is used in the
`testScript` to refer to the VM. It defaulted to the
`networking.hostName` which when set to `""` won't allow you to refer
to the machine from the `testScript`.

This commit makes the `system.name` configurable. It still defaults to:

```
if config.networking.hostName == ""
then "unnamed"
else config.networking.hostName;
```

but in case `networking.hostName` needs to be to `""` the
`system.name` can be set to a distinguishable name.

* booting from USB disk on a non-UEFI system
* booting from CD on a UEFI system
* booting from CD on a non-UEFI system
* booting from CD on an OSX system

Also tested that "nix-build ./nixos/release-combined.nix -A
nixos.iso_minimal.x86_64-linux -I nixpkgs=~/nixpkgs-r13y --check"
now succeeds.

Philip Potter e4029c34fc yubikey-agent: init at 0.1.3
This adds yubikey-agent as a package and a nixos module.

On macOS, we use `wrapProgram` to set pinentry_mac as default in PATH;
on Linux we rely on the user to set their preferred pinentry in PATH.
In particular, we use a systemd override to prefix PATH to select a
chosen pinentry program if specified.

On Linux, we need libnotify to provide the notify-send utility for
desktop notifications (such as "Waiting for Yubikey touch...").

This might work on other flavors of unix, but I haven't tested.

We reuse the programs.gnupg.agent.pinentryFlavor option for
yubikey-agent, but in doing so I hit a problem: pinentryFlavour's
default value is specified in a mkDefault, but only conditionally. We
ought to be able to pick up the pinentryFlavour whether or not gpg-agent
is running. As a result, this commit moves the default value to the
definition of programs.gnupg.agent.enable.

stage-2: parameterized systemd executable
This lets users do sneaky things before systemd starts, and
permanently affect the environment in which systemd runs. For example,
we could start systemd in a non-default network namespace by setting
the systemdExecutable to a wrapper script containing:

    #!/bin/sh
    ip netns add virtual
    touch /var/run/netns/physical
    mount -o bind /proc/self/ns/net /var/run/netns/physical
    exec ip netns exec virtual systemd

_note: the above example does literally work, but there are unresolved
problems with udev and dhcp._

Roman Sharapov d53d13b6ee nixos/buildbot: enable configurable keepalive for buildbot worker
In the current implementation, there's no possibility to modify the default
parameter for keepalive. This is a number that indicates how frequently
keepalive messages should be sent from the worker to the buildmaster,
expressed in seconds. The default (600) causes a message to be sent to
the buildmaster at least once every 10 minutes.

If the worker is behind a NAT box or stateful firewall, these messages
may help to keep the connection alive: some NAT boxes tend to forget about
a connection if it has not been used in a while. When this happens, the
buildmaster will think that the worker has disappeared, and builds will
time out. Meanwhile the worker will not realize than anything is wrong.

This is required by (among others) Podman to run containers in rootless mode.

Other distributions such as Fedora and Ubuntu already set up these mappings.

The scheme with a start UID/GID offset starting at 100000 and increasing in 65536 increments is copied from Fedora.

fontconfig: Only read versioned config dirs
Falling back to unversioned `/etc/fonts/conf.d` when versioned one does not exist
is problematic since it only occurs on non-NixOS systems and those are likely
to have a different version of fontconfig. When those versions use incompatible
elements in the config, apps using fontconfig will crash.

Instead, we are now falling back to the in-package `fonts.conf` file that loads
both the versioned global `conf.d` directory and the in-package `conf.d` since using
upstream settings on non-NixOS is preferable to not being able to use apps there.

In fact, we would not even need to link `fonts.conf`, as the in-package `fonts.conf`
will be always used unless someone creates the global one manually (the option is still
retained if one wants to write a custom NixOS module and to avoid unnecessary stat call on NixOS).

Additionally, since the `fonts.conf` will always load `conf.d` from the package, we no longer
need to install them to sytem `/etc` in the module. This needed some mucking with `50-user.conf`
which disables configs in user directories (a good thing IMO, NixOS module will turn it back on)
but otherwise, it is cleaner. The files are still prioritized by their name, regardless of their location.

See https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/73795#issuecomment-634370125 for more information.

Robert Hensing 8c0459f611 dockerTools: Always set imageTag attribute
The image tag can be specified or generated from the output hash.
Previously, a generated tag could be recovered from the evaluated
image with some string operations.

However, with the introduction of streamLayeredImage, it's not
feasible to compute the generated tag yourself.

With this change, the imageTag attribute is set unconditionally,
for the buildImage, buildLayeredImage, streamLayeredImage functions.

nixos/networkd: correct DHCPv6 UseDNS field 2020-07-10 21:47:51 -04:00
Michael Weiss 483dbe9237 systemd: Allow setting the transient hostname via DHCP
This permits using method_set_hostname but still denies
method_set_static_hostname. As a result DHCP clients can now always set
the transient hostname via the SetHostname method of the D-Bus interface
of systemd-hostnamed (org.freedesktop.hostname1.set-hostname).
If the NixOS option networking.hostName is set to an empty string (or
"localhost") the static hostname (kernel.hostname but NOT /etc/hostname)
will additionally be updated (this is intended).

From "man hostnamectl": The transient hostname is a fallback value
received from network configuration. If a static hostname is set, and is
valid (something other than localhost), then the transient hostname is
not used.

Fix #74847.

Note: It's possible to restrict access to the org.freedesktop.hostname1
interface using Polkit rules.

grub: Fix incorrect upgrade to new jsonStateLine. See #85895. (#92520)
Fixes error

    Can't use an undefined value as an ARRAY reference at /nix/store/...-install-grub.pl line 642, <FILE> line 5.

with `/boot/grub/state` being:

```
grub
2.04
no
/dev/sda
/boot
```

I am not sure where the trailing empty line can come from; the script does not
seem to write it. In any case, now we handle that situation as well.

Further, ensure that `extraGrubInstallArgs` defaults to the empty array
if its key is not present in the `jsonState`.

Niklas Hambüchen 8665b5ab91 grub: Add boot.loader.grub.extraGrubInstallArgs option.
Useful for when you need to build grub modules into your grub kernel
to get a working boot, as shown in the added example.

To store this new value, we switch to more structural JSON approach.

Using one line per value to store in `/boot/grub/state` gets really messy when
the values are arrays, or even worse, can contain newlines (escaping would be
needed). Further, removing a value from the file would get extra messy
(empty lines we'd have to keep for backwards compatibility).

Thus, from now on we use JSON to store all values we'll need in the future.

Niklas Hambüchen 5b16d4c9ce qemu-vm.nix: Fix device name hardcodes on useBootLoader.
boot.loader.grub.device` was hardcoded to `bootDevice`, which is
wrong, because that's the device for `/`, and with `useBootLoader`
the boot loader is not on that device.

This bug probably came into existence because of bad naming;
`virtualisation.bootDevice` has description
"The disk to be used for the root filesystem", which is very confusing;
it should be `.rootDevice` then!
Unfortunately, the description is right and the attribute name is wrong,
so it is not easy to change this without deprecation.

This commit ensures that even if you use `useBootLoader` and
`diskInterface == "scsi"`, the created VM can boot through, and can run
`nixos-rebuild afterwards.

It also adds extra commentary to explain what's going on in this module
in general in relation to `useBootLoader`.

CRTified c684398c6a nixos/system/boot/initrd-openvpn: Add openvpn options for initrd
nixos/tests/initrd-openvpn: Add test for openvpn in the initramfs

The module in this commit adds new options that allows the
integration of an OpenVPN client into the initrd.
This can be used e.g. to remotely unlock LUKS devices.

This commit also adds two tests for `boot.initrd.network.openvpn`.
The first one is a basic test to validate that a failing connection
does not prevent the machine from booting.

The second test validates that this module actually creates a valid
openvpn connection.
For this, it spawns three nodes:

  - The client that uses boot.initrd.network.openvpn
  - An OpenVPN server that acts as gateway and forwards a port
    to the client
  - A node that is external to the OpenVPN network

The client connects to the OpenVPN server and spawns a netcat instance
that echos a value to every client.
Afterwards, the external node checks if it receives this value over the
forwarded port on the OpenVPN gateway.

nixos/nsd: symlink conf file to /etc/nsd
We remove the configFile build flag override in the NixOS module.

Instead of embedding the conf file link to the binaries, we symlink it
to /etc/nsd/nsd.nix, the hardcoded config file location for the
various CLI nsd utilities.

This config file build option override is triggerring a nsd rebuild
for each configuration change. This prevent us to use the nixos cache
in many cases.

nixos/nextcloud: update upgrade-path for nextcloud19
Enhance the heuristics to make sure that a user doesn't accidentally
upgrade across two major versions of Nextcloud (e.g. from v17 to v19).

The original idea/discussion has been documented in the nixpkgs manual[1].

This includes the following changes:

* `nextcloud19` will be selected automatically when having a stateVersion
  greater or equal than 20.09. For existing setups, the package has to
  be selected manually to avoid accidental upgrades.

* When using `nextcloud18` or older, a warning will be thrown which recommends
  upgrading to `nextcloud19`.

* Added a brief paragraph about `nextcloud19` in the NixOS 19.09 release
  notes.

* Restart `phpfpm` if the Nextcloud-package (`cfg.package`) changes[2].

Euan Kemp 460c0d608f nixos-install: error out if $mountPoint has bad permissions
The nix store more-or-less requires o+rx on all parent directories.
This is primarily because nix runs builders in a uid/gid mapped
user-namespace, and those builders have to be able to operate on the nix
store.

This check is especially helpful because nix does not produce a helpful
error on its own (rather, creating directories and such works, it's not
until 'mount --bind' that it gets an EACCES).

Helps users who run into this opaque error, such as in #67465.
Possibly fixes that issue if bad permissions were the only cause.

Linus Heckemann b478e0043c nixos/mailman: refactor
- Add serve.enable option, which configures uwsgi and nginx to serve
  the mailman-web application;
- Configure services to log to the journal, where possible. Mailman
  Core does not provide any options for this, but will now log to
  /var/log/mailman;
- Use a unified python environment for all components, with an
  extraPackages option to allow use of postgres support and similar;
- Configure mailman's postfix module such that it can generate the
  domain and lmtp maps;
- Fix formatting for option examples;
- Provide a mailman-web user to run the uwsgi service by default
- Refactor Hyperkitty's periodic jobs to reduce repetition in the
  expressions;
- Remove service dependencies not related to functionality included in
  the module, such as httpd -- these should be configured in user config
  when used;
- Move static files root to /var/lib/mailman-web-static by default. This avoids
  permission issues when a static file web server attempts to access
  /var/lib/mailman which is private to mailman. The location can still
  be changed by setting services.mailman.webSettings.STATIC_ROOT;
- Remove the webRoot option, which seems to have been included by
  accident, being an unsuitable directory for serving via HTTP.
- Rename mailman-web.service to mailman-web-setup.service, since it
  doesn't actually serve mailman-web. There is now a
  mailman-uwsgi.service if serve.enable is set to true.

Florian Klink 9538bf50ae nixos/buildbot-master: support reporters, migrate away from status
Since Buildbot 0.9.0, status targets were deprecated and ignored.
There's a very small line on startup explaining that, and status simply
isn't reported. Avoid others the same headaches, and do it right in the
NixOS module.

As there might have been changes in the way reporters are organized, and
configuration might need to be migrated remove the old option, and not
just provide an alias.

rnhmjoj edc6a76cc0
nixos/documentation: add option to generate caches
Previously the NixOS-specific configuration for man-db was in the
package itself and /etc/man.conf was completely ignored.
This change moves it to /etc/man_db.conf, making declarative
configuration practical again.

It's now possible to generate the mandb caches for all packages
installed through NixOS `environment.systemPackages` at build-time.
The standard location for the stateful cache (/var/cache/man) is also
configured to allow users to run `mandb` manually if they wish.

Since generating the cache can be expensive the option is off by
default.

Niklas Hambüchen a59a972413 consul.passthru.tests: Fix failure on current consul. Fixes #90613.
Done by setting `autopilot.min_quorum = 3`.

Techncially, this would have been required to keep the test correct since
Consul's "autopilot" "Dead Server Cleanup" was enabled by default (I believe
that was in Consul 0.8). Practically, the issue only occurred with our NixOS
test with releases >= `1.7.0-beta2` (see #90613). The setting itself is
available since Consul 1.6.2.

However, this setting was not documented clearly enough for anybody to notice,
and only the upstream issue https://github.com/hashicorp/consul/issues/8118
I filed brought that to light.

As explained there, the test could also have been made pass by applying the
more correct rolling reboot procedure

    -m.wait_until_succeeds("[ $(consul members | grep -o alive | wc -l) == 5 ]")
    +m.wait_until_succeeds(
    +    "[ $(consul operator raft list-peers | grep true | wc -l) == 3 ]"
    +)

but we also intend to test that Consul can regain consensus even if
the quorum gets temporarily broken.

Andreas Rammhold 55c09a884a nixos/modules/system/boot/networkd: enable socket activation
Since cd1dedac67 systemd-networkd has it's
netlink socket created via a systemd.socket unit. One might think that
this doesn't make much sense since networkd is just going to create it's
own socket on startup anyway. The difference here is that we have
configuration-time control over things like socket buffer sizes vs
compile-time constants.

For larger setups where networkd has to create a lot of (virtual)
devices the default buffer size of currently 128MB is not enough.

A good example is a machine with >100 virtual interfaces (e.g.,
wireguard tunnels, VLANs, …) that all have to be brought up during
startup. The receive buffer size will spike due to all the generated
message from the new interfaces. Eventually some of the message will be
dropped since there is not enough (permitted) buffer space available.

By having networkd start through / with a netlink socket created by
systemd we can configure the `ReceiveBufferSize` parameter in the socket
options without recompiling networkd.

Since the actual memory requirements depend on hardware, timing, exact
configurations etc. it isn't currently possible to infer a good default
from within the NixOS module system. Administrators are advised to
monitor the logs of systemd-networkd for `rtnl: kernel receive buffer
overrun` spam and increase the memory as required.

Note: Increasing the ReceiveBufferSize doesn't allocate any memory. It
just increases the upper bound on the kernel side. The memory allocation
depends on the amount of messages that are queued on the kernel side of
the netlink socket.

Reads a bit more naturally, and now the changes to the
acme-${cert}.service actually reflect what would be needed were you to
do the same in production.

e.g. "for dns-01, your service that needs the cert needs to pull in the
cert"
